Fondazione Blu - Solidarity for childhood education

Fondazione Blu: Mission Childhood

There is a fundamental need within the poorest countries of the world, and those characterised by deep social diversity, to form a strategy of development starting from early childhood.

Fondazione Blu has been founded with the objective of helping the children of these poor countries by financing long term projects focused on the development and care of children in their early years.  Along with this, the organization aims to educate families in the basic rules of health in order to ensure that the child’s education, care and stimulation continues to be nurtured within the family environment.  To achieve this goal,  Fondazione Blu has committed itself to selecting and supporting partner organizations, which operate directly in the most needful areas of the world.  These organizations must have an established record of acting within the area effectively over a period of time, pursuing the primary objective of developing the child and the family, whilst respecting local laws and remaining politically and religiously independent.

Fondazione Blu aims to build a long-term partnership with such organizations to define, support and monitor funded projects.

More specifically, Fondazione Blu has set these objectives :

CINI, Child in Need Institute

Fondazione Blu’s first action was to collaborate with CINI, Child in Need Institute, that has been operating in Calcutta, India for over thirty years.  CINI is an international, highly reputed and professional non-profit organization, working with 300 people composed of paediatricians, gynaecologists, nutritionists, nurses, specialists in community health, and trained street operators.  The organization was founded by the Indian paediatrician Dr Samir Chaudhuri, who has worked continuously towards the improvement of the health and nutrition of mothers and their children.  CINI’s priority has always been to face the immense problem of child malnutrition and diseases in the poor families living in the villages and slums around Calcutta.  Nowadays its work has expanded to include support and development for other poor countries to achieve basic services such as health and nutrition care, specific education programmes and various research activities.  In order to strengthen the cooperation with CINI, Fondazione Blu asked Dr Chaudhuri to join the Governing Body of the Foundation as Senior Counsellor.

This partnership has so far generated three projects, implemented by CINI and supported by Fondazione Blu:

  1. The ‘Sneha Neer’ project aims to open small crèches in the rural villages and in the slums of Calcutta for children aged two to eight years
  2. The ‘Street Children’ programme promotes distance adoptions for street and working children, to enable them to receive a school education .
  3. The objective of the ‘Monobitan’ project is to build a special play-didactic centre on the outskirts of Calcutta, where street children can play, take part in sport and art activities and be re-established into school programmes

Financial objectives

Fondazione Blu is committed to raising the resources required to start and continuously support the three projects agreed with CINI. The projects of the crèches and the ‘Monobitan’ are pilot projects and therefore totally funded by Fondazione Blu, consequently there is a medium term requirement for a budget that will support the training, supervision and monitoring structure.

Contributions given to Fondazione Blu do not represent a one-time donation invested in one single project. They form part of its continuous fundraising efforts.  Part of the monies collected is invested in a corpus fund, which generates interest with which the Foundation supports its chosen projects and follows their development.

Individuals, companies and associations can participate in this vision by supporting these projects or suggesting other projects, which share the same values.  However new initiatives will only be undertaken when successful and continuous funding is assured for those already instigated.
